Find more information about the APUSH course and exam at the College Board. There is also a great resource out there where students can find chapter outlines for their textbooks at apnotes.net and course-notes.org. I do not encourage students to use this site necessarily but most students already know about it so it's a foregone conclusion. However, I caution all students to use it appropriately and not as a shortcut. You are REQUIRED to read every chapter in your textbook and analyze the content in the textbook. I will not teach this information but instead will work with students on strategies they need to take the textbook information and learn it on their own. The best way to use apnotes.net is to print the chapter outlines out and use them as you read the chapter. The student should be making notes in the margins, underlining/highlighting the notes, or using Post-It Notes to add their own thoughts and questions to the chapter outlines. They should also be using the outlines to study. But it is very important that the students actually read the textbook first. I will have assignments that go with every chapter but nothing will take the place of the student reading the material and working to analyze it themselves. That is one of the key points of this course and some of the best preparation they will have for college. In college the professor assigns a reading and expects students to read and learn from it themselves. I have the same expectations. Taking shortcuts will get the student nowhere and their grade and A.P. score will reflect this in May. If you have any questions about this then please contact me as soon as possible.
I have included a few resources above which will help your student prepare for the essay portion of their A.P. exam. Students will be expected to construct 3 essays on the exam and those 3 essays will count as 50% of their A.P. score. Unfortunately, our students haven't had a lot of practice writing history essays so this will be a skill that we will have to focus on during the school year. It will require a lot of practice on the part of the students. Please take the time to review the PowerPoints above on writing essays for the exam.
